Paraíso, 2026: Monica Perez
For the inaugural edition of Paraíso, a new London art fair dedicated to Latin American art, Cecilia Brunson Projects is pleased to present two solo presentations by Francisco Valdés and Monica Perez. Monica Perez (b. Montevideo, Uruguay) is a painter based in London, currently undertaking a Master of Research at the Royal College of Art. She paints with raddle, fleece, bone black and clay gathered in Garzón, Uruguay. These materials are bound to the livestock economy that tied Uruguay’s grasslands to the mills of industrial Britain. Her work follows the systems of marking, counting and control that sustained it, and the bodies and land its records leave out.
Recent exhibitions include FAULT: studies in survival, The Old Waiting Room, Peckham Rye, London (2026); Eternal Return Vol. II, The Koppel Project, London (2026); The Diasporic Archive, The Old Waiting Room, London (2025); Donde Comenzamos, Bomb Factory Art Foundation, London (2025); ARK Parrhesia, Hockney Gallery, London (2025); Fall of Icarus, Upper Gulbenkian Gallery, London (2025); and Ancestral Utopias, Hangar Gallery, London (2025). She has been an invited artist at CAMPO ARTFEST in Garzón, Uruguay (2020, 2023). Her work is discussed and illustrated in Jesse Ash’s “Mosaic Methodologies: What Does a Regenerative Art Practice Look Like?” (Arts, 2026), and in Jasmine Haniff’s “Unravelling the thread from colonial England to Uruguay in Monica Perez’s art” (Latin America Bureau, 2025). She holds an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art (2025).
