"Satan, the Cat. She loved cats. Many of her paintings portray black cats. Her own cat was a source of inspiration, and it would reincarnate as many times as it would be necessary. When a black cat died, another, similar one would make its way to the Pastorello-Larco home, to be given always the same name: Satan."

"Yes, she is an observer of reality, but she is not a neutral interpreter; she plunges into the darkest and stickiest depths unreached by light, then to emerge on the other side, with an image that is barely discrepant. Her motives, which at a first glance seem almost bland and stemming from the boredom or the laziness of someone whose bridges have been burned down, instead burst forth with the determination of someone who looks at everyday nature daringly and inquisitively. As if she were seeking to affirm her own existence in painting, Dignora devoted herself to portraying, over and over, almost obsessively, altered versions of the settings around her. She portrayed her own place, other people’s houses, her trips, her walks, views of balconies, birds, cats, people, interiors, alleys, fields, beaches.

A woman knits, sitting on the sidewalk; next to her, another woman, possibly a widow, quietly keeps her company; a black cat watches them from afar: they are Anastasia, Dionicia y el gato Pericón (Anastasia, Dionicia and Pericon, the Cat) (1966). Rather than representing everyday life in her paintings, Pastorello leaves everyday life in suspense, delays it, stirs it with her brush, in the expectation that something will happen, or some mystery will be revealed."
