We are excited to announce the first solo exhibition in Brazil dedicated to the work of Claudia Alarcón & Silät, opening in March at Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand (MASP). The exhibition, curated by Adriano Pedrosa and Laura Cosendey, will be the most extensive display of the collective's weavings to date, including works not previously exhibited, and will be accompanied by an illustrated catalogue.
For the Wichí people, weaving is an act linked to memory, mythology and territory. Claudia Alarcón & Silät and preserve and reform ancestral knowledge, experimenting with sophisticated compositions emerging from traditional patterns. Asserting female protagonism, the collective use textile production as a living language and an instrument of cultural and political affirmation, expressing their history and identity.
