Lucía Pizzani Venezuelan, b. 1975

Works
Overview

One of the core concerns of Lucía Pizzani’s expressive work is the interrelationship between narratives of women in history and literature, and processes of metamorphosis in the natural world. She works across a variety of media - including photography, ceramics, videos, drawings, performances and installations. Having studied Conservation Biology at CERC, Columbia University (NY), the artist has always incorporated ecological elements into her artwork. Pizzani’s physical environment often provides her with both the inspiration, and physical materials, for her work. This was demonstrated during two recent artist residencies at Launchpad Lab in the southwest of France (2020) and at Casa Wabi, Oaxaca, Mexico (2021). For these residencies, Pizzani was inspired to use local clay and flora to create sculptures, photographs and works on paper.

Pizzani's work has been included in two recent surveys of Venezuelan art: Panorámica, Arte Emergente en Venezuela, published by Telefónica Foundation and Nuevo País de las Artes, edited by Banesco. Recent solo exhibitions include: MERUNTÖ: in the house of the spirits, Bosse & Baume, London, UK; Tiempro Membrana, Hacienda la Trinidad, Caracas, Venezuela, and Manto, Galería la Cometa, Madrid, Spain. Recent group exhibitions include: PlanetB Climate Change and the new sublime, Palazzo Bolani, Venice, Italy; Cabillo, Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, Tenerife, Spain, and Peckham 24 Photography Festival, London, UK.Pizzani’s work is represented in private and public collections such as the Tate Collection, the Essex Collection of Art from Latin America (ESCALA), Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros (CPPC), Fundación Eugenio Mendoza, Archivo Fotografía Urbana, Museum Of Latin American Art (MOLAA), Colección Banco Mercantil, Colección Juan Yarur and the Catherine Petitgas Collection.
